Rendle was a British botanist who was the Keeper of Botany at the Natural History Museum from 1906 to 1930. He authored many books and articles, served as the botany editor for the Encyclopaedia Britannica 11th ed. (1911) and was president of the Linnean Society from 1923 to 1927.
